Edinburgh Castle - San Francisco, CA
Maybe we're just a moody band. One show is kinda so-so. The next is fantastic, and then it starts to go downhill again. Nature of the beast? or are we in need of Paxil? You decide.
Edinburgh Castle caught us in an upswing that night. We were playing with good bands. We were hanging with some really cool folks. And I think we were a little extra sassy for some reason. Plus this girl from downstairs, whom I don't think even worked there, brought us free pitchers of beer. Crazy.
Anyhoo, we found it rather enjoyable there. The upstairs has been redone since last we were there, and though the bleacher seating is gone, the stage/floor is big, and the place no longer looks like it's being held together with duct tape.
We started off the evening with a bit-o-sass, I must say. I think I can speak for the both of us when I say it was one of the funner shows we've played lately. I don't know why. But I had a great time, we played well, and dammit, people enjoyed it. At least they said they did. Plus, when you're the opener, then the pressure is off and you can enjoy the rest of the night.
Two Gallants were up next. This was the second time we've played with these two, and it's very cool to see their following growing by the week. Keep an eye on these boys. I got a good feeling about them. They play twangy, honest rockin tunes. Not unlike a very small Bright Eyes. Poetry, excellent hollowbody guitar stuff going on, and a drummer that knows the effectiveness of silence and space as much as a good groove. Tyson and Adam...you guys are neat.
And capping off the evening were the crazy cats from down the street at the Hemlock: Naugacide. They took us out with their rock 'n' roll with keyboard twist, and constant biting stage banter. It's quite fun to see them rip on each other, actually. It's all in good jest, you can tell, but humorous all the same.
Thanks to Owen for taping the show. Hopefully we'lll put some tracks up on the music page for y'all. So check back, eh?
