The Stork Club - Oakland, CA
Playing to a pretty empty room sucks. And the Stork Club was just that. I think I even saw a tumbleweed.
But you know, it's not the size of the audience that matters, it's the qualilty. And who better to grace us with their presence?, than Karen's parents. Yep, her kin folk flew all the way from Chicago to see her play, and boy are their arms tired.
Once we got Dad and Mom's earplugs in properly, they started to enjoy the show. Thanks for coming M + D!
Layman's Terms from Seattle played that night. As well as our friends the Binary Dolls.
Binary Dolls are really cool. Rhodes organ, laptop, guitar and trumpet. Electro beats, smooth and deep layed the groundwork and ambience over which the trumpet player and organist intermingled. Think Radiohead, or Halou or your chillout room with vocals. Sexy cool music.
Layman's Terms were an extremely tight group of young guys heading down to LA to shmooze with the industry folks. They have the formula for sure. Catchy, hooky songs. Totally cute lead singer, and the talent to play TRL live. Nice guys too. Let's hope fame doesn't turn 'em into Brittney-dating assholes.
