Memorial Day at Femina Potens - San Francisco, CA

Tina Butcher is doing good things for girls in the art scene of San Francisco. In fact she's just opened an Art Space on 16th at Van Ness, and is inviting bands to play shows, and hopefully spread the word about Femina Potens - a sanctuary and gallery space for women artists...and the place she calls home.

So Memorial Day arrived and we showed up at her door to play a little show on a monday night. Outside we met the Devil Makes Three, a lovely young trio from Santa Cruz who walked in with resonator guitar, 6 string and upright bass, and had the music jumpin' in about 2 1/2 minutes. Not bad. The lovely world of unplugged music. Ahhh......

But the coolest thing about these folks wasn't their down-home stompin' romps, but the fact that their stand-up bass player, this girl named Lucia, had only been playing for less than a year! She was so cool to watch, along with Cooper and Pete, these three together had heads bobbing through the whole set. Hope they come back soon.

We went on next. A bit of a contrast with the biggest bass amp in the world, but we managed to keep the levels down low, much to Mark's chagrine, and the neighbor's happiness. People liked our stuff. And it was a good little low key night.

Finishing up was a girl we've seen before, but don't remember her name. But she does experimental noise on the laptop. She uses Ableton LIVE software, which is very cool, and comes up with some crazy shit.

Thanks to Tina, and all who came to hang out.
