Gilman St - Berkeley, CA
Femina Potens Fundraiser

We've never played Gilman before. For some reason I always though it was some hoofy-doofy Berkeley hippy/yuppie spot.

Couldn't have been more off.

Punk rock to the ultimate. Graffiti everywhere. Bathrooms you are slightly afraid of. Door people posed to intimidate. Black-clad weathered folk running the place. Beer and cigarettes have taken their toll, yet the youngun's with their shiny spikes and hot topic punk pants, rub elbows with the veteran rockers. The color-killed hair, the combat boots with duct tape tourniquets, the couches harvesting vermin. They become the most coveted seats in the house.

Fabulous Disaster

The first band Pinup Motel, took too long to set up. But they had a cool chick drummer that was fun to watch. Nice people.

Butcher and Smear. Sweet little duo. Laptop and guitar filtration. Not for the faint of heart. Not for the average radio listener. Performance art, really.

Us. Great stage to play. Felt good. People liked it. Forgot our email list and only brought one cd and one tshirt to sell. Good move, Karen.

Fabulous Disaster. These cats have been around. And they're tight because of it. They ARE the Gilman. Like they were born and raised in the back room. Flailing rock. Hard-girl edge. and that wall you gotta get past when you talk to them afterwards. 3 out of 4 were quite gracious. The last one I will crack like a nut....next time.
