Balazo Gallery - San Francisco, CA
Another fundraiser for Femina Potens. Day after Thanksgiving, didn't think anyone would be there. But alas...there were lots of people, lots of bands, and a really fun evening. Even if our set did get pushed to the very last slot and chopped down to about 15 minutes. But hey, whose counting?
Some last minute additions threw the night into a bit of chaos. From 3 bands to 5. But the more bands, the more people, the more fun. Right?
Trainwreck Riders wedged their way onto the bill as the openers. Despite the fact that they are an all-male band, Tina gave her friends the slot. Good to have them at the show. Nice to hear them play again. But they did take their damn sweet time getting there and setting up.
That's all I'm gonna say about that. Did I mention we only got to play for 15 minutes?
Moving onward. They played well, got the crowd amped and the night rolled onward...
The Peels showed up outside the club. They're from Seattle. On tour. Not scheduled. But they found Tina and asked if they could hop on the bill as well. Tina, you're such a pushover....thank god!
The Peels were great. Energy out the ass. Too-cool-for-skool-bass player. Hot and indifferent. Is that redundant? Fun front chick flailing around. Just all great, fun rock 'n' roll.
Butcher and Smear....the ones who set up the evening played their noisey, laptop-guitar filtered art music. Cleared the room. And I feel for ya. We've done it too. Perhaps the kids just wanted to dance. Well, despite it all, you put on a cool show, and we really were happy to be part of it.
Discharge Information System played. Girl drummer, girl Cellist. Math-indie rock. Screaming vocals rearing up every fourth song or so. Big aspirations for a little band. I appreciated their balls, even if their's is not the cd I'd put on for relaxing.
Then we played. Some people stuck around. And we appreciate it. It was fun.
It's always fun.
